Grey Cottonheads - Conostylis Candicans

Grey Cottonheads is a small, tough WA native with fine, silvery-grey grassy foliage and small golden-yellow button flowers on short stems in spring. It grows naturally in the sandy coastal scrub south of Perth - which tells you exactly what conditions it thrives in: poor sandy soil, full sun, salt exposure, and long dry summers. In the garden it forms a low, spreading clump that works well as a border edge, a low groundcover between taller natives, or massed on a sunny bank. Full sun. Sandy, very well-drained soil. Phosphorus-free fertiliser. Very drought tolerant once established. Clip lightly after flowering to keep tidy.
