Minneola is one of the most recognisable citrus varieties - the large, bright orange fruit with its distinctive knob at the stem end is unmistakeable in any bowl of fruit. It is a hybrid between a Dancy tangerine and a Duncan grapefruit: the result is fruit that is large, easy to peel, and bursting with tangy-sweet juice that is richer and more complex than either a standard mandarin or a standard orange. The flavour is genuinely different to anything else in the citrus range - it has a sharpness that standard mandarins lack and a sweetness that grapefruit lacks, and it sits in its own category. Ripens from late winter through spring. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Deep watering in summer. Feed with citrus fertiliser in spring and autumn.
