Purple-leafed Plum is one of the most reliable and widely planted ornamental deciduous trees in Perth - and one of the few that delivers both a seasonal flowering event and year-round foliage colour. The pale pink blossom appears in late winter on bare branches before the leaves emerge, covering the tree in a soft haze of pink for two to three weeks. Then the new foliage flushes deep burgundy-red and holds that colour through summer and autumn before leaf drop. The two seasons are completely different and both worthwhile. It grows to around 5-8m and suits driveway planting, garden specimens, and street-scale positions. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.
